and I thought I'd give it a go.
1. You will need a flat board to attach your knobs unto. You can be creative with this. For my board I'm using a piece of driftwood that I found at this beach on this trip.
I got 4 out of my 5 knobs from our local habitat for humanity store for less than $1.00.
2. Measure and drill the holes for your knobs.
3. Attach your knobs to the board using the already drilled holes.
4. Attach the finished project to the wall and hang your necklaces!
and now my necklaces are officially organized!
See how I organized my earrings here.

WonderfuL! I've seen this idea on Pinterest too. I have a lot of necklaces, so I've been putting off doing something cute with them like this. I think I'd need about 12 knobs to keep them all from getting tangled together. Happy new year to you!
ReplyDeleteErin, I'm so going to try this...thanks for sharing the great idea finds. Love ya. Deb

ReplyDeleteI absolutely L O V E this!!! Now, to find the knobs, I think I'll look at a couple local antique shops. As for the wood, I'll just buy a piece from a home improvement store & distress it a bit. I call this ART!

ReplyDeleteDid you use the saw-tooth hangers for the back? I have some old porcelain door knobs that I could use for this
ReplyDeleteYes saw-tooth hangers would work great to hang it!
DeleteI realy love this creative and at the same time very simple idea! It looks original! Keep posting your art, you have got a talent. Mila
ReplyDeleteI want to make this for my daughter, but I need to know what you put on the back to attach it to the wall and where I might find some interesting knobs. thanks for your help. armitage 923 at yahoo dot com.
ReplyDeleteYou can use saw-tooth hangers for the back or even use a string of some sort attached to each end and hang it on a nail or hook. I found my knobs at the local Habitat for Humanity store. You could probably find some good ones at flea markets also!
DeleteHow did you hang it on the wall? :)
ReplyDeleteI used a form of saw-tooth hangers on the back to hang it.
Deletehow did you attach the knobs? did you screw them in from behind?
ReplyDeleteYes
Deletethat's a really good idea !
ReplyDeleteI done an article an my blog about you here : http://modeuse-timbree.blogspot.fr/2012/08/diy-9.html
See ya !!!
Thank You!
DeleteI will be doing this for my wife an d daughter. The only thing that I think I would add is that after drilling the holes for the knobs is I am hoingbto polyurethane the wood because that will keep it in exactly the same shape as it was found. No chipping, splintring or cracking and will extend the life of the hanger. Its simple to do. You just buy the clear poly and a brush and you can allow it to dry and use as ma my coats as you like. Between three and five would be ideal. You will keep the original look of the wood and it will last for many, many years to come. Grat idea though. Thank You for sharing it
DeleteSorry for all the typos in my previous post. I'm not very good at typing but I think everyone should be able to understand it. Sorry and Thanks

DeleteI'm all ready to make a couple of these as Christmas gifts, but as I'm looking at the knobs I got, I realize that they will stick out on the back so it won't hang flush to the wall. Did you have that problem? I can saw wood (poorly), but this is metal! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Keallie,
DeleteI used the knobs with the screw head on the back so it was flush with the wood. The knobs screwed in from the back to the front (into the knob) so I didn't have to cut off the extra metal. Hope that helps!
I love your idea! I'm gonna post it in my blogs, with other similars ideas!

ReplyDeleteI really like this idea - I want to run down stairs to look for wood right away! Then I want to run off looking for door knobs! This is something I am seriously considering doing!
ReplyDeleteDriftwood is your best bet, I'm guessing, since any old wood could be infested with termites...just a thought!
DeleteGorgeous!!love the idea.
ReplyDeleteWent and bought a drill so I could make some for Christmas gifts, now I need to find some inexpensive knobs. Fantastic idea...Thank You!!!!

ReplyDeleteThanks! Looks great, a lot of good DIY's for moms!
DeleteThis looks amazing but i cant find any interesting hooks :( had a look on ebay and theyre not even close to those beautiful ones on here!
ReplyDeleteI was on the hunt for knobs for a while too. They have a similar glass one at Home Depot. Perhaps you can find some ordinary ones and spray paint them fun colors! :)
DeleteIf you have a Hobby Lobby near you, they had a ton of beautiful ones. If you catch them on a 50% off week, even better!!!
DeleteCan I just have yours. I love your knobs and you drift wood is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I defiantly lucked out on finding a really good piece of driftwood for this project, for sure!
DeleteThe best idea ever!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a similar idea I used to make mirror "shutters" to hang over my bed, i just glued the knobs onto the mirror frame with krazy glue, eliminated the need for drilling (the mirrors give the effect of having a window in the room, I draped with curtains, put them high enough to reflect the ceiling light, a dramatic effect and makes the room look bigger).
ReplyDeleteYour creative project was a superstar in my round-up today! Thanks so much for the inspiration. Here it is if you want to check it out: 25 Creative Solutions to Necklace Organization.

ReplyDeleteI would like to know the next step after spacing the knobs out on top of the wood. How did you secure them? Screw them in from behind with a nut and bolt? Glue them? Please tell me because I am very interested to find this out. Thank you! I appreciate your help very much!
